Based in Santa Rosa, CA, Indigenous Designs Corporation designs and manufactures high quality, fair trade and all natural fiber knit wear for the U.S., Canadian, and Japanese wholesale apparel market. Indigenous' garments are produced by family-owned enterprises and artisan-owned cooperatives primarily located in Peru, Ecuador, Guatemala and India. Indigenous strictly adheres to fair trade and ecologically sustainable business practices, and ensures that its suppliers do likewise with all raw material procurement and production related to its business. Indigenous has been the recipient of the national Socially Responsible Business Awards and received national recognition for its unique and progressive business model.
In addition to its strong commitment to fair trade and organic principles, the company focuses on helping local artisans preserve their family and social infrastructure and culturally based skills. Over the last ten years, Indigenous has helped form a unique network of over 300 artisan production community groups around the globe. We have consistently paid the highest wages for hand knit apparel in the underprivileged regions we serve, which has directly impacted the lives of artisans in remote communities around the globe.
The company has been able to grow by partnering with like minded, progressive, socially responsible foundations, angel investors, and financial institutions. Indigenous has received support from Rudolph Steiner Foundation, The Barred Rock Fund (Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry's) and Ecologic Finance.
